Description of Short Service Combatant
The 15-year SSC grant will be given. The initial bonding period (ten years) will be renewed for a maximum of five years after that.
After the fifteenth year of commission, no further extensions will be given, except for conversion to a regular combatant commission when appropriate.
- The rank of second lieutenant with seniority will be awarded to officer cadets who complete their military training, with effect from the start of cadet training.
- Officers in the SSC will have the option to convert to the Regular Combatant Commission, but this conversion is not guaranteed. It is dependent on the position’s availability as well as additional requirements that are or will occasionally be in effect.
- Before being granted commission into the Nigerian Army, all graduating officer cadets are required to sign an acceptance of the terms and conditions regulating the SSC Commission.
- While the effective date of enlistment would be used for applicants who are military personnel, the reckonable duration of service for civilians who become commissioned officers will be based on the date cadet training starts.
