World Movement for Democracy (WMD) is giving out the UNESCO Hurford Youth Fellowship Program to young democracy advocates with leadership abilities.
UNESCO Hurford Youth Fellowship Program
The Hurford Youth Fellowship Program seeks to foster the leadership and democratic activism potential of youth worldwide.
Young activists who participate in the Program spend three months at the World Movement’s Secretariat, where they strengthen their international networks, exchange experiences with activists from various democratic groups, and help shape the global agenda of the World Movement for Democracy.
Hurford Youth Fellows plan and lead lectures, online forums, and information-sharing sessions on important democratic issues, conducting research, and participating in strategic meetings.
After completing each fellowship, the fellows operate as a focal point for their region or nation, collaborating with the Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network to stay active and take the initiative in youth-related initiatives.
Benefits of the UNESCO Hurford Youth Fellowship Program
1. A monthly stipend for living expenses, basic health insurance, and round-trip transportation to and from Washington, D.C. are all provided to each fellow. Washington, D.C.’s cost of living is factored into stipends.
2. A fully furnished office with internet and email access, as well as a small budget for fellowship-related long-distance phone calls, are given to fellows.
Financial Coverage for the Program
1. A monthly stipend will be given to the participants to cover living expenses.
2. In addition, they will receive health insurance.
3. Travel costs, including round-trip airfare (tickets to and from Washington, D.C.), will be awarded to the applicants.
4. Program fellows will also receive a fully furnished workspace with internet access and email capabilities. Additionally, they will get a set amount of money for long-distance calls relating to their fellowship.

Requirements for the UNESCO Hurford Youth Fellowship Program
1. Applications for the Hurford Youth Fellows Program are limited to individuals under 30 years of age.
2. They have to demonstrate a resolute dedication to engaging in political activism and advancing democracy both domestically and globally.
3. We especially invite applications from young individuals involved with civil society organizations.
4. Please be aware that applicants for the Hurford Youth Fellows Program may be from any country.
5. It does not provide graduate or university scholarships or any other form of financial aid, nor is it meant to fund postdoctoral research. There are no degree-granting academic courses offered by the program.
6. This isn’t a course of study. Furthermore, it does not provide financial aid to those who wish to complete professional training courses, attend conferences, or seek internships at other companies.
Selection Process
The Hurford Youth Fellowship Alumni Network, NED regional program personnel, and the World Movement Secretariat will choose the fellows after an application procedure.
Selection will take place according to several factors, such as a track record of activism or interest in promoting democracy, a willingness to connect with others, and an explanation of how the fellowship will help them in their democratic endeavors.
