The Dorcas McClean Scholarship (2024)
The University of Melbourne is currently giving out the Dorcas McClean Scholarship to well-deserving students who are residents of Australia.
The Dorcas McClean Scholarship
With a maximum value of $40,000, the Dorcas McClean Scholarship helps applicants get admitted to a recognized university.
Candidates must have resided in Australia for at least two years before the competition date and be between ages 17 and 25.
Only those shortlisted will be evaluated through a competitive process over several days at the Southbank Campus. The next edition of this triennial competition is scheduled for early 2025.
The contestants in second and third place will get monetary awards, while the winner of the Dorcas McClean Scholarship will receive a significant prize.
The shortlisted candidates will get a predetermined reimbursement to help with the expense of the competition criteria.
Benefits of the Dorcas McClean Scholarship
A one-time payment of up to $40,000 may be applied to study at another university that the University of Melbourne has approved. Candidates in third and second place will get $5000 and $10,000, respectively.
Requirements for the Dorcas McClean Scholarship
To be eligible for this award, you need to:
1. Be a violinist who, as of February 2, 2025, is neither older nor younger than 17 years old. You must also be an Australian citizen and have lived there for at least two years.
2. Suitably qualified to be admitted to a program at a university recognized by the Academic Board based on the suggestion of the dean of the faculty’s School of Music; or
3. Under the guidance of an instructor designated by the Academic Board based on the suggestion of the head of the music department; or
4. Possess a degree from the university or be an undergraduate.
Selection Process
1. Out of up to six candidates, a winner will be chosen after three rounds of performance competition to receive this award.
2. A jury of well-known violinists from Australia and beyond will judge them based on musicality, tone, technique, intonation, and composure.
How to Apply
The web address below can only be accessed during the application open phase. To apply for round 1, submit an online application with the following information:
1. An excellent web recording of the designated repertoire that includes your teacher’s or employer’s contact information for recording verification.
2. An overview of the musician’s background, covering the times and locations of professional work
3. Relevant educational background.
4. Information about the intended course of study or training that you plan to enroll in.
5. The addresses of two references.
Six finalists will move on to the second round after the recordings are evaluated on musicality, tone, technique, intonation, and composure by well-known Australian violinists. Round 2 will see three finalists move on to round 3.
Submitting Your Application
In the Navigation Panel, a Review and Submit button is located at the bottom. Before submitting your application, you must review it.
You can submit your application after reviewing it by selecting the “Submit” button on the navigation panel, at the top or bottom of the screen. If you do not have any validation issues and have completed all mandatory questions, you will not be able to submit your application.
There is no way to change your application after it has been submitted or to upload further supporting documents.
You will receive an email confirmation as soon as your application is submitted, along with a copy of the application itself. The email address you used to register will get this.
