Illinois Tech Leadership Scholarships

The M. A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy Scholarship, named for University Regent Al Self and his wife Lila, is a prestigious and recognized honour presented to the university’s top applicants who have extraordinary leadership potential.

In 2000, the Selfs gave the Leadership Academy its founding gift, which enables the Academy to award scholarships to up to four incoming first-year students.

Under the direction of Executive Director George M. Langlois and Program Manager Alexandra, the Leadership Academy consists of thirty undergraduate students.

The academy is an educational endeavor that aims to build the leadership potential of all Illinois Tech students in addition to providing money for 30 undergraduates.

Other advantages for recipients of Leadership Academy Scholarships include networking luncheons and dinners, social bonding with other Leadership Academy Scholars, experiential leadership development and training, and special leadership opportunities on campus and in the Chicago area.

Benefits of Illinois Tech Leadership Scholarships

  • Full tuition reimbursement during the academy’s first year of admission.
  • Students only have to pay any yearly tuition increases for the years after the first.
  • Undergraduate tuition can be paid for up to four years; if a student is enrolled in an architecture degree, tuition can be paid for five years.
  • Social cohesion with fellow Leadership Academy Scholars, networking luncheons and dinners, experiential leadership development and training, and exclusive leadership opportunities on campus and in the Chicago region.
  • After completing the Academy’s activities and programs, participants will receive a Certificate in Leadership Studies.
