The University of Edinburgh Masters Scholarship

The David/Pyott online distance learning master scholarships in Ophthalmology will be awarded to students from Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean, the Pacific, Central America, and Latin America who have been accepted for admission to the two-year, part-time online ChM (Master of Surgery) program in Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Edinburgh.

Benefits of the University of Edinburgh Masters Scholarship

Each scholarship will pay for a laptop and internet subscription in addition to the tuition for the whole course of study.  Due to academic progress, the prize is tenable for two academic years.

Requirements for the University of Edinburgh Masters Scholarship

1. The scholarships will be awarded to individuals who are accepted into the Edinburgh Surgery Online master’s suite, which includes the University of Edinburgh’s online Master of Surgery (ChM) program in clinical ophthalmology.

2. Applicants should already have been offered a position at the University of Edinburgh, and they should either be prepared to accept the offer or have already done so firmly.

Candidates must be advanced practice ophthalmologists with exceptional skills.

3. Applications from independent practicing ophthalmologists may also be taken into consideration.

Selection Process

1. Academic merit and a personal statement outlining your present contributions to national and local objectives for the growth of ophthalmology in your country, as well as your plans to use the scholarship to promote this goal, are the two main deciding factors in the selection process.

2. Successful applicants will commit to working in their home country’s ophthalmology service after completing their studies, using their newly acquired skills to further develop and improve the service.

Also, fostering academic and clinical links between The University of Edinburgh and the medical universities, ophthalmology teaching hospitals, and research institutes in their home country.

If you are accepted into the course, you will receive an offer, which may be unconditional or conditional; you must accept this offer before completing your scholarship application.

To apply online for the Edinburgh Surgery Online (ESO) scholarship, use the application form available online.

To submit an online application, click the link after selecting the David and Molly Pyott Foundation Scholarships title in the ESO Scholarships section.

You must enter the following information:

University Application Number

  • Enter the University application number (UUN) that you will have had via your online EUCLID application to be eligible for a slot on the ChM.

Tell Us Your Current Location

  • Do you reside in one of the aforementioned LMIC nations, or are you a citizen?  (Okay/Okay) Please let us know which one(s).

Personal Statement

  • Write a 500-word autobiographical essay detailing your encounters with the following:
  • What made you choose to submit a Master’s program application?
  • How taking this course of study will help you achieve your career objectives, in addition
  • How can this course help you work more effectively to improve the ophthalmology services in your country and give better eye care?

CV (Resumé)

  • Send a copy of your curriculum vitae.

Letter of Support

  • Provide a recommendation letter for your scholarship application from your community’s supervisor or director of the Ophthalmology Educational/Training Program.
